Within the string syllabus you will find details of the specific competitive and non-competitive sections for bowed strings, harp, guitar and ukulele. There are both solo and group sections. Solo sections are split by approximate grade standard. Group sections are split by age. Open classes are open to anyone, of any age.​
Electric guitarists will perform at the Marr's Bar sessions.
​We also love to hear you play together. This year, to make it as easy as possible to enter, all duets, groups, bands and ensembles small and large should enter the ensembles and duets sections and we will group them accordingly once all the entries are in. Group sections are split by age. Open classes are open to anyone, of any age.

All large and small group entries are FREE and all solos, duets, trios and quartet entries have 20% off the entry fees if completed by 1st December 2026.
​We do not believe any enthusiastic performer should miss out on WCAF because of financial concerns or additional needs. We want to make taking part as easy as possible and to ensure we include everyone who wants to take part. There are several special classes that string players may also wish to enter:

More advanced performers may wish to enter the William Lewis Recital class. Entrants to this class should prepare a 15-minute recital of 2 or more contrasting pieces.

The Marian Baker memorial class is another recital class for which a minimum standard of Grade 6 on two contrasting pieces is required.

The Sproule class is for performers up to the age of 15. Entrants must perform a poem or an acted scene AND a song or a piece of music on any instrument.
